A few days ago, Libya decided to block certain websites, like for instance Facebook. However a little while later, there was decided this blockage wasn’t enough and Libya decided to cut itself off the Internet completely. So in Libya the entire Internet was blocked. In this country, the Internet is controlled by Libya Telecom & Technology, a Telecom company owned by the government. That’s why the government can perfectly decide on his own to cut off the Internet for the Libyan people.

Landrush .co.no postponed

Normally the landrush for .co.no domain names would have started today, February 22nd 2011. However Norid (.no registry) decided the eve of the landrush to screen coDNS, the company behind the .co.no extension once more. Norid decided to ask some extra questions. Due to this decision, coDNS needs to postpone the landrush for this extension. The landrush will now start on March 25th 2011.

.mk registrations are possible again

A while ago we posted an article about the fact that .mk registrations (Macedonia) were temporarily impossible.  The reason for this interruption was the fact that the organisation which was responsible for .mk registrations (.mk registry) no longer had the permission of the Macedonian government to register .mk domain names.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has decided to provided Georgia with the IDN extension “.გე”. This non Latin extension will be introduced shortly.

100.000 .pro names registered

On February 3rd, we received a message from the .pro registry to inform us that in January 2011 the 100.000th .pro domain name was registered. Obviously the registry is very happy with this first important milestone.
