.wales or .cymru coming up?

According to a study produced by LE Wales in order of Nominet (.co.uk-registry) under Welsh companies 59% of the people who were questioned mean the region needs an own domain name extension. 40% also thinks that this own extension would help them to promote their business within Wales.

ICM postpones sunrise auction

ICM (the .xxx-registry) has announced they’ll postpone the auction for sunrise applications until December. Reason for this is the amount of applications which were filed during the sunrise, approximately 80.000, and the fact the registry needs more time to process all those applications.

Verisign asks ICANN to approve ‘Anti Abuse Policy’

Verisign, the registry which is responsible for the management of .com, .net and .name names has asked ICANN to approve an ‘Anti Abuse Domain Use Policy’. This way Verisign would like to get the possibility to interfere when they notice a .com, .net or .name domain name is used registered in bad faith.

Now or never for TM Clearinghouses

ICANNICANN is looking for a exclusive provider for a Trade Mark Clearinghouse service. This provider would basically retain a database of valid trade marks. Providers of new TLD’s which will launch in the coming years, will be required to offer a sunrise period of at least 30 days in which only holders of a valid Trade Mark can claim their domain name. Verification of the validity of the trade mark, will need to be done via the Trade Mark Clearinghouse that ICANN is now scouting.

Over 900.000 .РФ domain names registered

.РФThe Russian registry announced that the amount of registered .РФ domain names has just passed the milestone of 900.000 registrations. This new extension was introduced 11 months ago and is a Cyrillic representation of .ru. The “original” Latin-written version “.ru” still has almost 4 times as many domain names registered under it, but that probably shouldn’t come as a surprise as this TLD was already introduced almost two decades ago. .fr opens up rules, also for .fr, .re, .yt, .pm, .wf and .tf

AFNICThe .fr-registry (AFNIC) announced that, from December 6th onwards, the rules for registering a .fr domain name will be relaxed. At this point in time, you are required to either live in France or have a French Trade Mark before you can register a .fr domain name. With the new rules, anyone within the European Union will be allowed to register a .fr domain name. Read More…
