The Flemish government decided today DNS.be (.be registry) will be responsible for the management of the .vlaanderen extension. This was announced today by the registry.

Over 6% of .no domain names might be deleted soon
NORID, the registry in charge of .no domain names, recently started verifying if owners of existing .no domain names were still allowed to register a .no-name according to the registration rules. In order to be able to register a .no domain name, you need to be an official Norwegian company and only a limited amount of .no domain names may be registered per company. Until now, this was only verified at the time of registration.

10 million .uk names registered
Today Nominet (.uk registry) sent out a press release in which they announced they’ve passed the milestone of 10 million .uk registrations. Obviously the .uk registry is very pleased with this great news.

Anti-gambling law (again) in the way of decent landrush
When a new TLD is launched and multiple applicants might be trying to register the same domain name, there is always the question how to determine who will actually get the domain name and who will come second. Most people in the domain name registration business prefer such a “landrush” to be either run via an auction or if that isn’t an option by simple randomness. The latter option has however hardly ever been tried because of lawyers stepping in its way.

Guatemala introduces IDN and .gt
On March 5th 2012 the .gt registry introduces 2 new things: the possibility to register an IDN domain name and the possibility to register a (IDN) .gt domain name.
