Over 3 million .eu names registered

Approximately 3 years after the first sunrise, .eu has passed the milstone of 3 million registrations. This extension grew to the fifth largest worldwide after .cn, .de, .uk and .nl.

Remarkable is that the pace with which the extension grows, decreases. A year and a half ago, there were already 2 million .eu names registered. Now, 1,5 years later, another million have been registered. A possible declaration might be that lots of people already have registered a .eu name. Another fact is that the country extensions remain more popular than the .eu extension.

New policy .org names

From February 5th 2009, a new policy for .org names will be in force. With this policy the .org registry takes a strong stand against the abuse of .org domains. The following matters are considered as abuse: illegal and fraudulent actions, distribution of child pornography, phishing, spam, botnets,…

The new policy contains different possibilities to stop the domain abuse. The registry can deny an application. A transfer can be cancelled or denied. The registry also has the right to place a name on the status locked or hold or not to unlock a certain name.

A while ago, a similar policy came into force for .info names.
